IRC Commands
Below you will find most of the common IRC commands, more will be added in the future. To use these commands, type them in your IRC client, (some of these commands are specific to mIRC).

/amsg <message>

/amsg I'll be back in a while.

Sends the specified message to all of the channels you are currently on.

/ban [#channel] <nickname|address>

/ban #mp3 flooder
/ban #mp3 flooder!identd@*.telia.com

Bans the specified nickname/address from a channel, (only Operators may use this command).

/channel

Brings up the channel information window, which contains detailed information about the channel, including: all of the bans in the channel, the current topic and modes that have been set to the channel, (this command can only be used in a channel window).

/dcc chat <nickname>

/dcc chat Carbonize

Start a DCC chat session with someone, (or you can click the DCC Chat button on the toolbar).

/dcc send <nickname> <filename>

/dcc send Carbonize C:\download\truckin.mp3

Send a file to someone, (or you can click the DCC Send button on the toolbar).

/disconnect

Forces a disconnection from the IRC server. It is not the same as the /quit command which sends a quit message to the server and then waits for the server to disconnect you.

/dns [-c] [nick|address]

/dns Carbonize
/dns 172.151.249.105

Gives you information about the nick|address you entered.  If you were to type: /dns Carbonize, the results would appear something like this:

*** Looking up AC97F969.ipt.aol.com
*** Resolved AC97F969.ipt.aol.com to 172.151.249.105

You can queue multiple /dns requests, and you can view the current queue by using /dns with no parameters.

The -c switch clears all currently queued DNS requests, except for the one currently in progress.

NOTE: Because of the way the DNS lookups work, any DNS related functions currently in progress eg. connecting to a server, must be resolved before subsequent requests. This means that if a prior DNS is having problems resolving, subsequent DNS's have to wait until the original DNS request times out before they can be resolved.

/exit

Closes mIRC.

/finger <nick/address>

/finger Carbonize
/finger 172.151.249.105

Requests a finger file from the designated nickname/address.  If you specify an address, the address is immediately fingered.  If you specify a nickname, the users address is looked up using a /userhost and then it is fingered.  A finger file generally contains some basic information about the user that has been fingered, (most people don't use this feature).

/fsend [on | off]

/fsend on

Turns DCC fast send on or off.  This is something that all file traders should do immediately.

/help [keyword]

/help dcc

Brings up the help file and searches for the specified keyword.

/identd [on|off] [userid]

/identd on carbonize

Turns Identd on or off, and changes to a new userid if it is specified.  Most IRC servers require that you have identd enabled.

/ignore <nickname/address>

/ignore Carbonize
/ignore Carbonize!carbonize@*.aol.com

Allows you to ignore messages from the specified nickname/address.  There are additional switches that can be used.  For information about them, consult the help file.
